Spectacular Decorative Effects Achieved with Aquepoxy® Waterborne Epoxy Concrete Floor Finish

Ken Ardern, a successful Queensland flooring contractor specializing in feature effects, has achieved a spectacular result using Aquepoxy® Waterborne Concrete Floor Finish at the prestigious Sovereign Island residential estate on the Gold Coast.  

 The architect wanted a novel and unique hard-wearing finish for their 250 square metre basement car park floor, which could be safely applied without risk of explosion or release of hazardous chemicals into the atmosphere.

 Ken had previously achieved excellent results with Aquepoxy® Waterborne Concrete Floor Finish in 7 times Bathurst 1000 winner Jim Richards racing workshop and other car park projects. With its successful track record of more than 15 years, Ken selected Aquepoxy® Waterborne Concrete Floor Finish, knowing it had the advantage over solventborne and solventless epoxy coatings that it could be applied to damp concrete. Ease of clean up of tools using water rather than solvents, as well as virtually zero odour, also presented a benefit to the applicator. Ken found that not only was he able to apply a highly resistant hard wearing coating to the concrete floor but has achieved some attractive effects using the spatter coating technique perfected by him.

Ken achieved the feature spatter effect, with a similar appearance to a flake coating, in only one day by applying two coats of Aquepoxy® Waterborne Concrete Floor Finish in light grey shade as supplied, and then after allowing to dry, applied the decorative effect using special Aquepoxy® tint bases. The results achieved present an attractive contrast to the exterior pebblefinish concrete driveway. Aquepoxy® Waterborne Concrete Floor Finish has been used for many years on concrete floors especially car parks where its excellent adhesion to concrete (in common with most epoxies) signified by its hot tyre resistance as well as stain resistance to motor fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid etc commonly encountered in motor vehicles provides an excellent opportunity for the coating to demonstrate its superior performance.

Aquepoxy® Waterborne Concrete Floor Finish is available in 12 attractive colours (as well as Linewhite and Clear), supplied in 25 litre kits, sufficient to apply two coats on approximately 100 m² of floor area.
